PD 301 Ideation Sketches

Project: Create a set of Silverware

Tast:

one page with Positional transitions

one with tangential transitions

one with curvature transitions

two inspired by my mood boards

This was a rewarding and extremely disappointing exercise. The drawings were a wonderful process where I worked through many different designs and was able to iterate freely, honing certain forms and being purposeful with my craft.

Though I misunderstood the assignment and worked in a medium of quick, gestural, and small drawings that did not lend themselves to a critique environment. This resulted in receiving little feedback on my work.

While the work I produced resulted in wonderful project development and ideation internally it did not satisfy in creating something that could be discussed. Discussion is of immense value to the student who is always in a place of needing direction and critique.

I have learned that one may not live without the other, to succeed my ideas must be developed and honed with detail but will not be of value if they cannot be displayed and understood by other for discussion.

considering early ideation with the intention of presenting for critique will be key to recieving useful commentary from peers and professors, and will prepare me to work on teams down the road where ideation is not a lonely activity but a group one.
